A meeting was held at 8 Cambridge Street. At first there were not sufficient present to begin practising but on the arrival of a sixth, those present, Cameron, G F Green, W Green, Heaven, Radcliffe (introduced by Heaven) and Thorn adjourned to St John’s Mission, and made a beginning on Sleights sword dance. Cameron having the loan of a “Pixie Grippa” portable gramophone from the makers, this was used. Hielan Laddie record (Pipe Major D Smith on pipes, HMV B.980) was used for first figure. In the second figure, progress did not reach to using music. Radcliffe went home but the other five went to Reeve Hall to practise Country. Present of the “Lumps of Plum Pudding”: Miss O Macnamara, Miss R Macnamara, Miss Burch, Miss Stone, Miss Yates.
The gramophone was again used, giving ample volume. Dances: If All the World, Oranges and Lemons, Newcastle.
Similar practices were also held on January 22 and 29 but as far as Morris and Sword were concerned little could be done, only four being present on one occasion and five on the other. (Cameron was away in the North January 21 to Feb 1 inclusive.)
